Peter Lehmann Wines is Named
Winemaker of the Year
"Barossa producer Peter Lehmann Wines, renowned for the diversity of its product range and its award-winning wines, is this year's deserving winner."
On the 1st November 2006, the international Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) announced Peter Lehmann as the International Winery of the Year for the second time since 2003.
This fiercely competitive arena attracts around 5,000 entries from over 50 countries including top names from all over the world, and is regarded as the pinnacle of international wine competition
The Announcement was made at the official awards ceremony in London where Peter Lehmann Wines was also named Australian Producer of the Year for the second time. Commenting on the event, Andrew Wigan, Chief Winemaker at Peter Lehmann wines, said "To be made the International Winemaker of the Year for the second time is unbelievable. There is enormous excitement throughout the company, particularly as the judging is done by an international group of judges on 'neutral ground' in the UK. Peter Lehmann Wines comprises a talented team of people which of course includes 180 independent grape growers in and around the many and varied sub-regions of the Barossa, South Australia. The sheer quality, reliability and versatility of this amazing wine producing region has led to a high level of achievement with both our red and white wines, ultimately resulting in this prestigious award."
To further prove Peter Lehmann's overall quality and consistency, they achieved a 100% result with the wines entered into the competition, wining 1 trophy, 2 Gold (Best in Class) Medals, 1 Gold Medal, 4 Silver (Best in Class) Medals and 3 Bronze Medals. This is an excellent spread of results with an exceptionally high average mark.
Doug Lehmann, Managing Director of Peter Lehmann, commented on the success, "It really has been a great team effort and one that could not have been achieved without all the hard work and dedication from all our winemaking team and our many growers from within the length and breadth of the Barossa. The Peter Lehmann brand is based on real values; our wines are real wines, made by real people from a real place - the Barossa Valley of South Australia!"
The following are a few of the wines that got excellent ratings, all winning awards: Peter Lehmann's Eight Songs 2002 and 2000, Mentor 2001, Stonewell Shiraz 1999 as well as 2000, Barossa Semillon 2004 and the wine that stole the show, the Reserve Riesling 2001.
