Peter Lehmann, the legendary winemaker and producer, was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2009 International Wine Challenge Awards held in London on Tuesday 2nd September.

The winery knows its existence in the late 1970s, when Peter Lehmann and some investment partners established the winery in Barossa, South Australia, with the aim to protect grape growers who were facing financial problems. In fact the winery was originally built to process fruit purchased from local growers. The first vintage was processed in the early 1980s and the winery was formally named Peter Lehmann Wines.

The inspiration for the company's corporate logo is the Queen of Clubs.
In the mid 1990s, Peter and his wife, commissioned young Australian artists to re-interpret the Queen of Clubs by designing wine labels that reflect the style and character of each of Peter Lehmann's wines thus combining the art of winemaking with the art of painting.

The first years were difficult for Peter Lehmann as he was all aware of the great challenges of a highly competitive market. Following dedication and hard work the company succeeded in producing premium wines and to date it is enjoying a well-deserved international reputation as one of the top winemakers.

This prestigious award is a proof of Peter Lehmann's great achievement and contribution to the wine industry. No wonder he is known as the ‘Baron of the Barossa'.
