Inspired by South Africa's amazing wildlife and fabulous wine, owners Ingrid Dalli and Alan Mercieca Bons celebrated the 4th Anniversary of Del Borgo Wine Bar in an unusual style.
Featuring ethnic music at the background, guests were entertained with some of the best award winning South African wines produced by Simonsig. A full flavoured, dry Kaapse Vonkel Brut Rosé and a delicate, sophisticated Kaapse Vonkel Brut were the first sparkle of the night. The latter is well known as the first sparkling wine made in South Africa according to the traditional French method of Champagne. The exotic Chenin Blanc reflects a starbright hue with aromas of tropical fruit that fills the palate whilst a honey and raisin flavour evokes a silky texture on the aftertaste. Pinotage was the first red wine released by Simonsig in 1970. This medium-bodied, fruity wine is ideal to accompany savoury ethnic cuisine.
Run by the Malan family for decades, Simonsig is one of the most reputable wine estates situated in the wine region of Stellenbosch, South Africa. It is named after the dramatic views of the Simonsberg Mountain and it is a popular landmark for tourist destination.
A variety of mouthwatering food was prepared to complement the selected wines. During this event, Del Borgo launched the Enoteca concept which offers clients the possibility to purchase wine by the bottle and locally produced foodstuffs after tasting.
Del Borgo is situated in the heart of the historical city of Birgu. Originally a Medieval palace, Del Borgo was converted into a contemporary venue where patrons could enjoy their wine while tasting traditional Maltese cuisine in a relaxed and friendly environment.
